Holmes Bible College started November off right with the SEND Conference. Itinerating missionaries came from all over to speak to our students to inspire and to educate us on what it really takes to be a missionary. The Riley Family, the Schweighardts, the Oders, the Hafners, Whitney Browning, Allison Jones, and Madeline Nix all came and gave us powerful words about missions. Something that stood out to me was they all focused on the importance of not only the goers but also the senders. The goers could not go without the support and prayers of the senders. One is no more important than the other. They also all mentioned that you shouldn’t have to be sent to another country to be a missionary, our mission field should be on the ground between our feet.
Each family represented had something in common; they were all newly Christians and had homes and families, who never imagined selling all that they had and move their families to a new country. But all of them received a call at an unexpected time, and all of them willingly and happily accepted. Their willingness to serve God and to be in His will was inspiring to all of us!
Many of us at Holmes have already received and accepted the call to missions and I believe the inspiration of these missionaries lit that same flame in others in our student body. I know for me SEND week always rekindles that flame in me and excites me for the future to come. If God can call the most unexpected people he can call you too!
