When you look at the statistics of what young people are going through today, the picture is both bleak and stark. Loneliness, depression, hopelessness, and sadness have become the norm of everyday life. The connected generation is feeling more and more ostracized.
The overarching feeling is that the system has failed them, the government has failed them, institutions have failed them, and the church has also failed them. Despair has become viral and the unavoidable end.
It’s time to turn the tide…
Jesus said that His followers are to be the light of the world, a city on a hill that cannot be hidden. Paul told us that we are not like those without hope. Like the German Theologian Jürgen Moltmann said, “From first to last, and not merely in the epilogue, Christianity is eschatology, is hope, forward looking and forward moving, and therefore also revolutionary and transforming the present.”
As we claim to be people of promise and a place of hope, let’s make hope viral with our words, with our posts, with our deeds, and with our love. Wherever we are, and wherever we speak, we choose to speak life and turn the deserts into valleys of hope.
We cannot stand passively by and allow for the narrative of despair to continue to capture the hearts and minds of this generation. It’s time for us to reach out and speak out, it’s time for us to remember who we are and to remind young people all over the world who they were created to be. Let’s do it together. Let's become agents of hope! #MakeHopeViral
